Meteorologist Fired for Responding to ‘Racist’ Facebook Post

On Oct. 1, a viewer identified as Emmitt Vascocu wrote, “the black lady that does the news is a very nice lady.the only thing is she needs to wear a wig or grow some more hair. im not sure if she is a cancer patient. but still its not something myself that i think looks good on tv. what about letting someone a male have waist long hair do the news.what about that (cq).”
Lee replied the same day, “Hello Emmitt–I am the ‘black lady’ to which you are referring. I’m sorry you don’t like my ethnic hair. And no I don’t have cancer. I’m a non-smoking, 5’3, 121 lbs, 25 mile a week running, 37.5 year old woman, and I’m in perfectly healthy physical condition.
“I am very proud of my African-American ancestry which includes my hair. For your edification: traditionally our hair doesn’t grow downward. It grows upward. Many Black women use strong straightening agents in order to achieve a more European grade of hair and that is their choice. However in my case I don’t find it necessary. I’m very proud of who I am and the standard of beauty I display. Women come in all shapes, sizes, nationalities, and levels of beauty. Showing little girls that being comfortable in the skin and HAIR God gave me is my contribution to society. Little girls (and boys for that matter) need to see that what you look like isn’t a reason to not achieve their goals.
“Conforming to one standard isn’t what being American is about and I hope you can embrace that.
“Thank you for your comment and have a great weekend and thank for watching.”
Vascocu replied that Lee was right to be proud of who she is and that he is not a racist, but “… this world has … certain standerd (cq). if youve come from a world of being poor are you going to dress in rags?…”

We are starting to notice this new trend. The trend is a strong brow, and bluish bottom eyeliner. Do you like this trend?

Being able to attend a live taping of Oprah’s Life Class was amazing! Literally, there are no words to describe that moment. As we walked into the Houston Hobby Center there was so much excitement and anticipation in the air. That same air was filled with love, hope, faith, and passion. October 5, 2012 is a day that we will NEVER forget. She truly is an inspirational human being! She wants everyone to live the best life possible and she is giving you the resources to do so. She is bringing the best of the best authors, preachers, motivational speakers, and teachers to guide you to your destiny! Make sure you watch the new season of Oprah’s Life Class that starts in January!

P.S. They played Rihanna “We Found Love” and Mary Mary’s “Go Get It” before Oprah came out of stage. How cool is that?

This is the best month of the year to us. Not only is it the month that we celebrate our birthday, its also the month that we celebrate and support Breast Cancer! Everyday we ready pink to cherish the ones that have gone on to Heaven and those who are still here. Breast Cancer Awareness month is important to us because our grandmother, Mildred Hutchison, is a survivor. She is strong and victorious and grateful thats she detected hers early. Thats why it is important that you go to the doctor reguarly and get a breast exam. Encourage others to go with you, make it a group outing. Its important to do this every 6 months.
There are various ways to do other fun activities as a group. There are numerous companies and charities that you can look up in your area that support Breast Cancer Awareness. There a popular walk-a-thons, and 5K races that you can volunteer at or be a part of. Find a way to make yourself available this month to donate not only money to end Breast Cancer, but donate your time as well.
We are all in this together!
